The COMP molecule of joint cartilage was discovered in 1992 by the world-famous research group of Professor Dick Heinegård and Professor Tore Saxne at the University of Lund in Sweden. AnaMar has, in close collaboration with the inventors, developed a one-step sandwich ELISA to detect COMP in different body fluids, such as serum and synovial fluid. The need of biomarkers reflecting an ongoing degradation of joint cartilage is well accepted among scientists and rheumatologists around the world.
AnaMar's COMP ELISA test has been on the market for some years and a significant amount of experience has been gathered. In adults, an increase in serum COMP has been associated with a progression of osteoarthritris and degradation of joint cartilage in rheumatoid arthritis.
In some recent review publications COMP has been pointed out, in relation to other biomarkers, to be a very promising prognostic and disease severity biomarker in chronic joint diseases.
The new COMP website is launched to simplify for the user of AnaMar's COMP ELISA to order kits, but also to inform users and other scientists/clinicians about recent publications and the utility of the test.
