Project AMAP102

Oral treatment for rheumatoid arthritis

AMAP102 is a novel, orally available compound for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, originated from AnaMar's proprietary 5-HT2 antagonists. The concept of using a 5-HT2 antagonist for the treatment of the inflammatory component in arthritis and inflammatory pain provides a unique and novel alternative to the established rheumatoid arthritis therapies.

The beneficial effects of AMAP102 have been shown in several disease models highly relevant to rheumatoid arthritis, including inflammatory pain. AMAP102 has been evaluated in a phase I clinical study, consisting of single ascending and multiple ascending oral dosing in healthy volunteers.

Therapeutic area:

Rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory diseases and inflammatory pain

Stage of development:

Anamar Drug Project AMAP102 - Stage of development: Phase 1

Mechanism of action:

AMAP102 antagonizes the peripheral 5-HT2B/2C receptors on the invasive and aggressive synovial cells. This antagonism leads to a reduction of IL-6 and TNF-α production, achieving a broad anti-inflammatory effect.

Competitive advantages:

  • Novel target for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Orally bioavailable compound suppressing the production of IL-6 and TNF-α
  • Small molecule
  • Phase I study in healthy volunteers performed
